About

Me and My Shadow is a puzzle/logic game and runs cross platform. For more information about Me and My Shadow, see About. If you're looking for appropriate version, see Download. This manual mainly describes the SVN version, but the notion is appropriate for all earlier versions.

Menu

This is the Me and My Shadow main window.

The main window includes lots of items Move the mouse to each items, there will be reverse angle bracket shown on both sides, then click it to trigger event.

Play

When clicking on Play item, you will get into the next window.

This window contains a few fields that can be changed. In the upper middle part, you should notice a field which is surrounded by angle brackets. There is a short description shown below the level type field, this is a brief description for the level type that you choose. Below the short description area, you'll see lots of blocks with numbers on it, each block represents a level. Remember you need play those maps sequentially or you'll find the block is not available until you finish the previous level. You'll see a block at the left bottom part, it is just a description to notice you that you should choose a map to play. In the lower middle part, you'll see Time and Recordings, These two fields are not available until you finish this level. After choosing a level, you can simply start the game by clicking the Play itme in the right bottom part.

Select Level

In the upper middle part, move your mouse over one angle bracket, the angle bracket will be gently shaken, then click it and you will see the level type is changed. You can simply click left/right angle bracket to select level. Notice the levels you installed from Addons could also be chosen here. The game built-in levels are shown below:
Levels: Include all Self-defined maps.
classic: Includes 24 levels that was the original levelpack included in the first release.
default: Includes 19 levels which include puzzles with increasing difficulty.
Tutorial: Include 25 levels with step by step introduction.

Time

Best time / Target time.
Remember this area is not available until you finish this level. After you finish this level, you can watch replay by clicking this area.

Recordings

Best recordings / Target recordings.
Remember this area is not available until you finish this level. After you finish this level, you can watch replay by clicking this area.

Options

When clicking on Option item in main window, you will get into the next window.

This window contains a few fields that can be changed. In the upper middle part, you should notice a field which is surrounded by angle brackets, move your mouse over one angle bracket, the angle bracket will be gently shaken, then click it and you will see the setting type is changed. There are two types settings allowing players to do general settings or hot-key configuration.

General

Music & Sound: You can control both music and sound by moving the scroll bar.
Resolution: The default resolution is 800*600, but you can change it by clicking the left/right angle bracket according to your system resolution.
Language: This game supports English, German, Spanish, Finnish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Chinese. The default language setting is Auto-Detect.
Theme: Clicking the left/right angle bracket to change the theme. The built-in theme includes both Classic and Cloudscape.
Internet proxy: It provides a quick and easy way to change your proxy server address while surfing the Internet, just in case, if you cannot downlaod the addons try to type a new proxy server address in the textbox.
Fullscreen & Internet & Level themes: There is checkbox at the right part of those three itmes, checking the fullscreen, the game will become fullcreen mode, checking the internet, the game can download addons, checking level themes, each level will apply the theme.
Save Changes/Cancel: Don't forget to save/cancel your settings before back to main window.

Controls

This is the control window, this window contains a few fields that can be changed. Below the controls item, there is a field which is surrounded by angle brackets, called "Primary key". Below the "Primary key" field, you'll see the square area and you can use the right scroll bar to go up and down. In this area, there is a list of key configuration, you can change any one of them by clicking it and then click the "Unset the key" and choose a key to reset. Don't forget to save/cancel your change before back to main window. Back to the "Primary key" field, move your mouse over one angle bracket, then click it and change to "Alternative key". You should notice that the "Alternative key" is an alternative option for key setting, for example, the "Up" key in keyboard is default setting in "Primary key", this key can control the selected items in main menu. If the "Up" key is not working for some reason, then you can choose another key in keyboard like "8" through "Alternative Key" setting to do that. The "Alternative Key" setting process is exactly same as the "Primary key".

Addons

In the upper middle part, there is a field which is surrounded by angle brackets, move your mouse over left/right angle bracket, the angle bracket will be gently shaken, then click it and you will see the addon type is changed. Those addons include Levels, themes and level packs. Below the addon selection field, you'll see the square area and you can use the right scroll bar to go up and down. There are a list of addons in this square area. When clicking one of addons in this list a window will appear. There is a "Install" item at the bottom of this window, click it and the addon will be installed. If you want to remove addons, go the same process and there will be "Remove" item at the same position, just click it to remove addons.

Gameplay

Game target

Try to reach the exit by solving puzzles. Spikes, moving blocks, fragile blocks and much more stand between player/shadow and the exit.

Player/shadow

Both player and shadow can get through each other but they can jump onto each other. Only shadow can touch shadow materials and vice versas. Users can directly control player using hotkeys but shadows can only be controled by recording player moves and let shadow mimic them.

Blocks

There are not only normal blocks and shadow blocks but also multitudinous blocks waiting for you. For more information, please see Blocks

Collectables

Sometimes the exit is locked, users need to find the key first.

Level props

Getting stuck in dead end? There are lots of hiding tricks in this game. Remember to check the following: Checkpoint, Swap, Teleporter, Button, Notification block.

Medals

There are two determinants for getting the medal, target time and target number of recordings.
You will earn the gold medal, if you beat both the target time and target number of recordings. You should also notice that the targets can be beaten in separate runs, so if you get quick time but many recordings and a slow time with less recordings you will still get a gold medal.
You will earn the silver medal, if you beat or match the target time or the target number of recordings.
You will earn the bronze medal, if you complete the level.

Level editing

At the bottom of this window, there are a few symbols.

The left four symbols are used to build new map, each of them represent a mode, for example, the first symbol is select, click it to get into the select mode, at this mode, you can only move the items.

Select

In select mode, users can easily select an item and move it.
After selecting an item, right click the item, a right-click menu will appear, and there are three options, "Move", "Delete" and "Scripting". You can easily drag the selected item to anywhere by long-press your left mouse button, and you can also use the hotkey "Delete" in keyboard to delete items in this mode.

Add

Add new items and choose item type by scrolling with the mouse wheel. Those item types include Normal block, Shadow block, Spikes, Exit, Checkpoint, Swap, Fragile, Moving block, Moving shadow block, Moving spikes, Teleporter, Button, Switch, Conveyor belt, Shadow conveyor belt, Notification block, Player start, Shadow start, Collectable and pushable block. You can also right click the item at this mode, the process is exactly same as select mode.

Delete

Delete unwanted items.
When moving to an item, you will see the mouse pointer becoming a red x, then click the item, this itme will be deleted.

Play

Test the new level using player/shadow.
There is "Play" located in the middle bottom of level editing window, click it , both player and shadow will fall down from the position of "Player start" and "Shadow start". If you forget to add "Player start" and "Shadow start", both player and shadow will fall down from the left top of this window. You should also make sure both player and shadow will stand on blocks, which means you should at least put one block below the left top part. You should also notice the time and recordings at the left bottom part, which records how much time you cost and how many recordings you use. You can stop the play anytime by clicking "ESC" button on keyboard.

Level settings

Create name, theme, target time and target recordings for this new level.
When clicking on Level settings in the toolbar a window will appear. This window contains a few fields that can be changed. The first one is the name of the level which will be displayed in the level select. The second one can be used to change which theme should be used for the level. If this field is kept empty the configured theme will be used. The target time and target recordings fields can be used to configure the targets of the level. If set to zero no target will be set or displayed in the level selection screen. Changes made can be canceled at any time by pressing Cancel or by closing the window. Pressing Ok will keep the changes.

Save level

Save this new level.
When clicking on "Save level" a confirm window will appear, click "OK" to save this new level or press "Esc" button on keyboard to cancel.

Back to menu

Back the main menu.

Blocks

A Me and My Shadow level is made out of blocks.
